Reverse Glass Painting Blog
July 25, 2010 When I decided last week that my painting was going to be in the studio, it must have given a burst of incentive, because every painting that was in progress had enough wet paint on it by Friday night that there was nothing left to work on. So, even the negative things have their positive sapects. My husband and I drove up to Boonville to enter 2 paintings in the Dodge Pratt Northern art show. It's been busy enough here. I am working on some small, afordable to any one paintings; most of flowers. There are just so many beautiful flowers this time of year. Many of the flowers are getting bees and butterflys painted in them, because they are there and they are nice to look at too. Nature is beautiful; take time to notice!________________________________________July 18, 2010 Just for the record, the on-site painting was close to wretched. I went out in one of my flower gardens to paint some purple cone flowers at 1 in the afternoon. The sun felt so hot that by 1:15 I was incapable of thought. I stopped to put up an awning; the frame had a break in it. My husband saw what I was doing, so came out to help. The tent went up, and the wind came along to blow mt wet sticky canvass onto the lawn. When I got back to the painting, Miss Kitty decided to help by jumping up in my lap to climb up on the back of my shoulders. Are tou getting this picture yet? It took at least a half hour to get the supplies together, and that long to put things away. ( that is without time for the tent ) I have decided to be a studio painter forever! ________________________________________July 15, 2010 Work has been moving right along in the studio; there is a grass hopper, a frog, and two butterflies, all on flowers, and all on 4" x 6" panes. For some reason, it's a lot of fun to work in the small panes. This weekend was my weekend off from work until I said last night I would work O.T. on Sunday. There is still Saturday, and my plan is to paint on canvass, on location. This is going to be a flower garden painting with purple cone flowers. Have never tried painting on location before, but it will be a back yard adventure! Wish me luck!____________________________June 28, 2010 Yesterday I was off work, and with the help of my husband, went canoeing for the first time this year! It was so incredably relaxing on the Erie Canal. I was only out there for one hour, but it was the one hour I have looked forward to. Today is Mon. so I'll get back to the reverse painting on glass after work tonight. I am now working on a painting of 3 hot air baloons in an 8" x 10" pane of glass. So far, it's very colorful. On the 911 painting that is in progress, I thought of a different technique for the background, so it could take time to figure it out. I love getting back to the painting on Monday nights!________________________________________June 16, 2010 On Sunday, my sister had a birthday party for my Aunt Jane. She turned 87, and I wish her a very Happy Birthday! There was no shortage of people there to celebrate! Last night I got back into the Ground Zero painting that I'm working on, but 20 minutes was enough time for me in the big city ( so very crowded there ), so I went over to the flower garden painting to work some more. Suppose I will go back to N.Y.C. again tonight. Maybe I'll be able to stay longer this time. Have a lovely!________________________________________June 12,2010 Last night at work, I got to take one of my peeps to the Art Show Awards at the Ava Dorfman Civic Center in Rome, New York. This year, again, I was stunned to learn that one of my paintings had taken the blue ribbon in mixed media. It was my latest work in the 911 series, titled "Carry the Flag". Another big surprize came to find out that my husband had won the red ribbon in mixed media with one of his lathe art works! What an evening! When Rich came home from work, we celebrated with a couple of beers, and I went up to the studio to paint. That was an inspiration!________________________________________June 10, 2010 It used to be that winter felt as busy as summer, with the shoveling, snow blowing and roof cleaning, but it will definately be a relief if I ever get caught up with the lawn work here. A few weeks ago I visited a new gallery that opened in Rome, N. Y. called 'Sienna'. One of their objects is to promote local artists. What a clean, pretty gallery it is! They now have 2 of my paintings. One of the co-owners told me that he thought my work got too detailed in a lot of my reverse paintings on glass, and to try to compare a painting to a three minute sketch. Well, I did not reply that I have been looking for a faster way to work for some time. But this statement did get me back on that track. In addition to the reverse glass paintings that were in progress, I painted a few butterflies and some flowers, allowing the paint to do it's own mixing on the glass. There are a few of these paintings on my latest work page, and surprizingly, I am happy with them.
