Glass Painting Kits

The Glass Painting Kits for children as well as beginners that I have been working on for at least a month are FINALLY done! It was so exiting getting the first one all together and in the box! I gave one of them to my boss for her 6 year old daughter to try out, and one to a co-worker for her 9 year old grand daughter. When they are finished, I am going to take photos, and post them here! I know that I am much more excited about the glass painting kits than they are! The results are in, and I am impressed!

The painting above of the frog, and the painting of the fish are among the glass painting kits for children. All of the materials to paint both of these paintings are included in this kit. The paintings will be 8.5" x 11". The surface to be painted on is plexi-glass in the kits for children. The two penguin paintings are in the second kit. Each of the kits for children sells at the price of $19 plus s&h. If 10 or more kits are purchased, the price is $15 plus s&h

Probably for a more advanced painter, the first subject I thought of for a kit was lighthouses. that may be because they were very popular as a painting subject in Early American reverse paintings on glass. So this is where I started. I think that the next painting kit that I make will have a subject of deer, and then possibly on to wolves or deer.

A word to the wise, this is not, and I stress not, a paint by number kit. It's much more of a chalenge than that in one way, yet gives the painter more freedom in another.

The price of this glass painting kit will be $38 plus s & h. It will include an acrylic paint set, brushes you will need, paint mixing cups, written directions and graphics to help you along, and 2 11" x 14" new picture frames with glass to paint on.

However, if you already have the supplies, and would like to purchase only the directions and graphic assist section to both of the paintings will be a total of $8. This price includes the shipping. This would be the better option for those who already paint in oils, and prefer the stronger, more permanent 'feel' of oil colors, or the person already painting in acrylics, who has the material already, and has the benifit of knowing the nature of the beast, and does not need the entire glass painting kit.

Learn to Paint on Glass

So you have seen a few reverse paintings on glass, and decided you would like to try it? That’s the look you really want, and you would like to do it yourself? Yes, you can paint on glass! Everyone always wants to do their best work immediately, but slow down, because there is the learning process. That’s where I come in handy. I wish I could offer more, but other than classes here and there for painting in oils on canvass and watercolor classes, I have not had formal training in the art world. How ever, I have been reverse painting on glass for over 8 years now, and I am able to offer help in that area. This is more than just a hobby for me. I work the evening shift at my regular job, and when I come home at night, I work on my reverse glass paintings for an hour or two before going to bed. I do this five nights a week, giving myself a break only on weekends. I have made mistakes, but I have also learned how to avoid them, and correct them. Enough about me. Let’s talk about you.

You are reading this because you want to learn how to do a reverse painting on glass. You don’t know quite where to begin, or how to proceed. What I have to offer is this; A glass painting kit containing all of the needed materials and step by step instructions, (written by yours truly ) with a picture of each of the steps when completed. There is also a ‘map’ that you will tape on the back side of the glass to help with perspective. Each glass painting kit will have two framed glass panes, for you to do two complete paintings with. Part of the contents will include an acrylic paint set. I chose acrylics only because you would probably like to finish the paintings in a reasonable time frame. Oils take much longer to dry. Personally, I prefer to work in oils. They are so much stronger and more permanent. For those who are familiar with oils, or those who immediately want to paint in oils, the complete instructions are available without the rest of the kit.

The big things to keep in mind when reverse painting are as follows: 1) Always clean out the brushes and equipment when you are through painting for a session. 2) Allow the paint to dry between steps. With acrylics, it’s usually an overnight deal. 3) If you are going to paint with acrylics, you can only paint over that area once without erasing the previously laid paint. The second coat needs to dry also before you can treat it as a first coat. 4) If you are painting in oils, and allow the paint of the first coat to dry thoroughly, you needn’t worry about painting over it repeatedly. If it’s dry, it’s there. 5) Tape masking tape around all edges of the glass to prevent cuts on the hands until you’re almost done. After that, be very, very careful about handeling the glass.

For those of you who have already begun, I hope that my five tips help. For anyone else who may want to try their hand, I have been and will be working on more painting kits with different subjects to paint. Best wishes, and happy painting!

This is a 'graphic detail' of one of my paintings about a quarter of the way through. This one will be labeled Step #3. The kits have anywhere between 8 and 12 steps to completion.

Above, you will see the "Buck Fever" paintings. They are available as a kit now, too, for $38.
