Art and Antiques

Art and Antiques gallery started out as an antique show room. For years it remained so. Then my paintings started building up to a point where there was no place left to put them in the house. At that time, they began their exodus to the gallery, but not before the culling process began.

My efforts had led me to doing reverse paintings on glass, but I had already amassed a mountain of oils on canvass. In my eyes, the quality ranged from to very good down to poor, in varying degrees of course. I knew where the mistakes had been made, and didn't want to look at the poor paintings any longer. It was a cold central New York winter, so they went in the wood stove in the work shop. Never to be seen again, in the same form.

We had probably culled at least 30 paintings, when an 80 year old lady came to the gallery, and purchased a reverse painting on glass. That reverse glass painting had been destined for the 10 pound maul over the garbage can the next day. That was the point at which we stopped culling.

I had seen a close to porno woman laying in a hammock.

The 80 year old lady had seen a very interesting woman, who was out of proportion, yet still beautiful in her own way. Her thoughts ran in the lines of, "maybe you don't have to fit other peoples' norm to be beautiful."
