Adirondack Art

What, you might ask, is Adirondack Art? Having lived my life in the foothills of the Adirondacks, and making visits up north through out the years, I feel confident in saying that there are so many arts going on in the Adirondacks In addition to the rich Early American history, the beauty alone up there is an inspiration

A few years ago, a lady came to my art and antique shop. Among other things, I do reverse painting on glass. I remember it well, because there is so little drive by traffic out here in the middle of no where. She was looking for a small wooden box for her tarot cards, but was slightly bedazzled by the wooded area surrounding our back yard. After she saw my husband’s and my own art work, she nodded her head, and said “if you want to create, you go to the woods.”

It seems that the further north that you travel from where I live, the more artists per fewer people you will find! There are people who paint, those who draw, some who work with metal, cabinet makers, and the list goes on. It makes me think seriously about buying a place in the adirondacks, but it would be much more of a drive to work than I would want to make. But maybe someday... It would be lovely to have the number of distractions in life dwindle.

Aside from the abundance of pine trees and birches, what I like the most is the lakes, and the wild animals. The only part that isn’t to my liking is that it’s quite a bit colder when you get that far north in the mountains. The people who like to ski and snowmobile enjoy it though! I am definatly going to give more thought to adirondack art!
